Formosa Ha Tinh suspends blast furnace after fire

An equipment malfunction occurred at the Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Company on the morning of September 4. The incident took place at hot blast furnace number 3 within blast furnace number 1, causing sparks to fly and igniting nearby grass. The malfunction also produced a large column of black smoke that covered the surrounding area.

In response to the incident, the blast furnace workshop activated emergency shutdown procedures to ensure safety. Firefighting teams and local authorities managed to control and extinguish the fire within approximately 30 minutes. No injuries or fatalities were reported.

The Ha Tinh Province People's Committee has directed the Ha Tinh Economic Zone Management Board, along with police and industrial departments, to investigate the cause of the incident. The company has temporarily suspended operations of blast furnace number 1 to allow for cooling, inspection, and necessary repairs to damaged equipment.
