Formosa health teams trained in acute stroke thrombolysis
On 31 May, health professionals from district hospitals across Formosa Province attended a one‑day update and practice session on acute stroke (ACV) management at the Hospital de la Madre y la Mujer. Organized by the provincial Emergency Network, the “Preceptorship de tratamiento ACV agudo” aimed to expand the use of intravenous thrombolysis for ischemic strokes, a treatment that must be administered within a four‑hour‑and‑half window.
Neurologist Miguel Campuzano, a member of the Provincial Stroke Network and the Provincial Neurology Programme, explained that Formosa records 400‑600 stroke cases annually and that the training equips teams to apply thrombolysis even without an on‑site neurologist. The province’s telemedicine system allows a neurologist in the city of Formosa to review imaging in real time and guide district teams, while strategically placed CT scanners and hospital beds support rapid care.
The initiative, funded by the Government of Formosa, seeks to improve early diagnosis and reduce long‑term disability among patients in remote areas.
