Formosa strengthens leprosy prevention and detection efforts

The government of Formosa, through its Ministry of Human Development, is strengthening actions to prevent leprosy as part of the 27th National Campaign for Education and Prevention of Leprosy in Argentina. The provincial program focuses on early detection, timely diagnosis, and treatment to prevent disabilities caused by the disease.

Dr. Tatiana Sosa, head of the Provincial Leprosy Program and a specialist at the Evita Interdistrict Hospital, emphasized that leprosy is treatable and curable. She noted that early detection is critical to avoiding complications. Key symptoms to monitor include skin patches with reduced sensitivity, numbness or tingling in hands and feet, loss of strength, nerve pain or thickening, and wounds or burns that do not cause pain.
