Williams boss Vowles affirms driver commitment as F1 driver market speculation swirls

Williams team principal James Vowles said both Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon remain fully committed to the team despite ongoing rumours linking the drivers with other outfits. Vowles noted that any discussions about departures would be taken directly to him and expressed confidence in the project to improve the car for podium contention.

Albon later warned that Williams' chances in the upcoming Austrian Grand Prix look grim, citing the car’s lack of down‑force, excess weight and a recent mechanical issue that hindered performance in Barcelona. He stressed the need for substantial development to close the gap to midfield rivals.

Alpine executive Flavio Briatore predicted a quiet driver market for 2027, saying the only realistic move would be Max Verstappen switching to Mercedes. He also commented on Fernando Alonso’s situation, praised Alpine drivers Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto, and warned that any major change could shake the market.
