Formula 1 CEO supports potential return of V8 engines

Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has expressed support for a proposal by FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem to reintroduce V8 engines to the sport, potentially as early as the 2030 or 2031 seasons.

The discussion follows dissatisfaction with the 2026 engine regulations. Drivers and fans have criticized the current direction, noting that drivers must often sacrifice cornering speed to maintain battery levels on straights, leading to inconsistent racing patterns. Max Verstappen has been among those vocal in their criticism of the current regulations.

Domenicali stated that the sport is moving in the right direction and emphasized his commitment to listening to drivers, whom he described as the sport’s ‘crown jewels’. He noted that while current engine models were driven by manufacturer demands, the sport must continue to evolve.
