Formula 1 considers refueling to reduce car weight

Formula 1 is exploring regulatory changes for the post-2030 era, including the potential return of V8 engines by 2031. One major proposal to reduce car weight involves reintroducing mid-race refueling, a practice that has been absent since 2010.

However, several team principals have expressed opposition to this move. James Vowles (Williams), Peter Bayer, and Ayao Komatsu (Haas) are among those skeptical of the sporting benefits. Komatsu noted that refueling complicates the race for spectators and alters the logic of qualifying sessions, expressing a preference for cars to be as light as possible during maximum performance efforts.
