Formula 1 drivers Alonso and Sainz discuss career longevity

Formula 1 drivers Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz have expressed confidence in the ability of veteran athletes to maintain high performance levels in the sport despite advancing age.

Fernando Alonso, 45, defended his competitive capacity by citing his performance at the 2023 Qatar Grand Prix, where he remained physically capable despite extreme heat that affected other drivers. After recently becoming the oldest driver to score points since 1974, Alonso noted that age is not an obstacle if motivation and physical conditioning are maintained.

Carlos Sainz, celebrating his 32nd birthday, suggested he could potentially compete in Formula 1 until the age of 45. Citing the longevity of peers like Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso, Sainz emphasized that maintaining mental health, physical fitness, and managing the demands of travel and media engagements are key to extending a racing career.
