Formula 1 history: Schumacher’s seventh title and James Hunt’s milestones
August 29 marks several historic milestones in Formula 1 history. One of the most significant occurred in 2004 at Spa, when Michael Schumacher secured his seventh and final Drivers’ Championship after Kimi Räikkönen won the race for McLaren.
In 1976, James Hunt celebrated his 29th birthday by winning the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort driving a McLaren M23, a victory that contributed to his eventual World Championship title. Hunt's career and his famous rivalry with Niki Lauda have been widely documented, including in the film ‘Rush’.
Other notable August 29 events include Keke Rosberg’s 1982 Swiss Grand Prix victory for Williams and Damon Hill’s 1993 Belgian Grand Prix win, which helped Williams secure its second consecutive Constructors’ Championship.
