Formula 1 outlines approach for 2030 technical regulations

Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has confirmed the sport is beginning discussions regarding the next set of technical regulations, which are expected to take effect in 2030 or 2031. While the current regulations are still being implemented, the conversation is already shifting toward the future of engine configurations and car design.

Domenicali stated that the primary objectives for the upcoming ruleset are to keep technical aspects as simple as possible, produce lighter cars, and utilize sustainable fuels alongside electrification. The discussions will involve a collaborative process including manufacturers, teams, drivers, and fans, though the FIA maintains final authority over the technical details.

The move comes amid speculation regarding engine types, as some interest has shifted away from the V6 hybrids used since 2014 toward potential alternatives like V8 engines. Domenicali noted that while new regulations often face initial negativity, the goal is to focus on the opportunities that change brings to the sport.
