Formula 1 reaches 830 million fans amid demographic shift
Formula 1 has reached a significant milestone, surpassing 830 million fans globally. This represents a 64% increase in viewership since 2018, a growth attributed to the strategic shift under Liberty Media's leadership. The sport has successfully modernized its approach by embracing social media and content like the Netflix series ‘Drive to Survive’, resulting in a much younger and more diverse demographic. Currently, 43% of followers are under the age of 35, and 42% are female, with women accounting for three-quarters of new fans.
This expansion has transformed Formula 1 into a massive economic ecosystem. Beyond race weekend revenue, the sport is driving growth in hospitality, retail, the creator economy, and digital commerce. Global sports sponsorships are valued at nearly $92 billion, with Formula 1 playing a central role in how major brands engage with consumers through limited editions, luxury experiences, and integrated lifestyle partnerships.
