Formula 1 announces 2027 calendar with 10 Sprint races

Formula 1 has officially announced its 2027 calendar, which will feature 24 Grand Prix races across 22 countries. A major highlight of the upcoming season is the expansion of the Sprint race format, increasing from six to ten events per year.

For the first time, Monaco and Monza will host Sprint races. The inclusion of a Sprint in Monaco has drawn mixed reactions; while some critics point to the circuit's difficulty for overtaking, others suggest the format could provide more excitement through additional qualifying sessions and starts. Driver Lando Norris noted that the reduced practice time presents a significant challenge for competitors.

The 2027 season is scheduled to begin in Bahrain on March 14 and conclude in Abu Dhabi on December 12. Notable changes to the schedule include the return of the Portimão and Istanbul circuits, while Zandvoort and the Barcelona circuit (Montmeló) will be absent. The Spanish Grand Prix will move to Madrid, while Barcelona will rotate with Spa-Francorchamps in alternating years.
