Formula 1 Shifts Focus to Europe, Rules Out Double Las Vegas Race, Eyes Imola Return

Formula 1 officials are redesigning the 2024 calendar to give Europe a larger share, with nine of the 24 races slated for the continent. The move is driven by commercial, sporting and sustainability considerations, as European circuits attract mature TV markets and lower logistical costs compared with inter‑continental events.

President and CEO Stefano Domenicali said the series will not add a second Grand Prix in Las Vegas, citing the high expense, permitting challenges and competition for attention with the NFL season. Instead, the organization is prepared to add a European round, with the historic Imola circuit under discussion after it missed the 2023 season due to flooding. Potential shifts of Middle‑East races caused by the Iran‑related conflict could further open a slot for Imola.

The shift reflects a broader strategy to reduce reliance on new desert venues, curtail travel, and reinforce the sport’s traditional roots while maintaining a global presence.
