Formula 1 teams face technical challenges at Madrid circuit

Formula 1 teams faced challenges during the first practice sessions at the new circuit in Madrid. Red Bull Racing underwent significant modifications to Max Verstappen’s car between the first and second practice sessions to address performance issues. Technical Director Pierre Waché noted that the team is working to improve mechanical grip, energy consumption, and tire degradation, as the track surface is not as smooth as expected.

Verstappen finished the second practice session in sixth place, trailing the fastest lap by four-tenths of a second. The team expects to make further adjustments before the final practice session.

Charles Leclerc secured fifth place on the grid for the race. Despite the position, Leclerc expressed satisfaction with his performance, particularly as he was utilizing an older specification engine. The Ferrari driver noted that the lack of long straights on the Madrid circuit will make overtaking difficult, making tire management and the race start critical factors for Sunday’s event.
