Formula 1 viewership declines in first U.S. season on Apple TV

Formula 1's first season on Apple TV in the United States has seen a decline in viewership according to data from Samba TV. The shift in broadcasting rights follows F1's move away from ESPN after the 2025 season.

Analysis shows significant drops in household reach for several major events. The Miami Grand Prix experienced a 68% decrease, while the Monaco Grand Prix fell by 66%. The Canadian Grand Prix also saw a 23% decline. Out of the nine races analyzed, eight reported declines in reach, with the Japanese Grand Prix being the only event to remain unchanged.

Alyson Sprague, Samba TV’s vice president of measurement science, suggested that viewers might be utilizing Apple TV free trials to access races without converting to paid subscribers.

Apple holds the exclusive U.S. broadcasting and streaming rights for Formula 1 through 2030. The five-year agreement is valued at approximately $750 million and includes access to F1 TV Premium for subscribers.
