Formula 2 to debut at Mexico City Grand Prix in 2027

The FIA Formula 2 championship will debut in Mexico in 2027, serving as a support category for the Formula 1 Mexico City Grand Prix at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. The event is scheduled to take place from October 29 to 31, 2027, and will feature both a Sprint race and a Feature race.

Federico González Compeán, General Director of the Mexico City Grand Prix, stated that the inclusion of F2 is a significant step for Mexican fans and provides a platform for young drivers to compete in front of local audiences. The move is also expected to bolster tourism in the capital, where tourism accounts for over 10 percent of the local GDP.

Mexican drivers Noel León and Rafael Villagómez are currently competing in the F2 series, providing local interest for the upcoming races. The championship serves as the primary developmental tier for drivers aiming to reach Formula 1.
