Formula Student Korea competition concludes in Yeonggwang

The 2026 Formula Student Korea student-built vehicle competition recently concluded in Yeonggwang County, South Korea. The event, co-hosted by the Korean Society of Automotive Engineers and the Korea Automotive Technology Institute, saw record participation with approximately 2,500 students from 45 universities and 60 teams competing in engine-based and electric vehicle (EV) categories.

In the E-Formula category, Kookmin University teams secured the Grand Prix and Gold awards, while Kyung Hee University received the Silver award and Hoseo University earned the Bronze. The competition evaluated vehicles on engineering design and performance through tests such as acceleration, skidpad, autocross, and endurance racing. A pilot autonomous driving formula competition was also introduced this year to showcase AI and sensor integration.

The event provided a significant economic boost to Yeonggwang County, with an estimated local economic impact of approximately 1.3 billion KRW due to increased spending on accommodation, dining, and tourism by participants and visitors.
