Formulaz Wooden Car Races Celebrate 16th Edition in Tunca, Rize

The 16th Formulaz Tahta Araba (Wooden Car) Race was held in Tunca, a town in the Ardeşen district of Rize Province, Turkey. Hundreds of spectators watched participants—both men and women—race motor‑less, handcrafted wooden cars down a steep course, navigating sharp turns while wearing traditional "kara lastik" shoes. No injuries were reported despite occasional overturns.

Organisers highlighted the event’s role in preserving local culture, music, and commerce, describing it as a growing brand that promotes regional identity. The race received support from the Tunca municipality, with Mayor Ramazan Topçu praising the community effort, and from Red Bull, which helped raise its national and international profile. The festival also featured performances by artists such as Selçuk Balcı and Sefo, underscoring its broader cultural significance beyond the competition itself.
