Foro Italico reinstates Stadio del Nuoto roof after 20 years

The Foro Italico is undergoing renovations to enhance its sporting capacity, most notably with the reintroduction of a roof for the Stadio del Nuoto. This project, managed by Sport e Salute, will allow the facility to be used twelve months a year, supporting disciplines such as swimming, water polo, and lifesaving. The new structure measures 37 meters wide, 66 meters long, and 7 meters high, ensuring continuity for athletes and sports clubs through the winter season and preparing the venue for the 2027 Internazionali Bnl d’Italia.

While investments are being made in major hubs like Rome and Caserta, concerns remain regarding the management of aquatic infrastructure in other regions. In Taranto, the Torre d'Ayala swimming stadium, which features two Olympic-sized pools, currently lacks a concessionaire. This lack of management poses a risk to the long-term utility of the facilities following the Mediterranean Games, highlighting a need for sustainable management and economic planning to complement infrastructure developments.
