Foro Penal reports release of numerous political prisoners

The human rights organization Foro Penal reported a significant number of political prisoners were released from various detention centers during the early hours of Saturday, September 26, 2026.

Among those confirmed released is Frank Cabañas, who had been imprisoned for nine years in El Rodeo IV in Miranda state. Cabañas was the last remaining individual detained in connection with the case involving the late police official Óscar Pérez. Other released individuals include Miguel Castillo Cedeño, who had been held in Ramo Verde since June 2019, as well as several others linked to Operation Gedeón, including Justo Daza, Cosme Alcalá, Juan Fredd Acosta, Juan Torres, and Leonardo Chirinos.

Foro Penal stated it is currently verifying each individual case to provide a complete balance of the releases.
