Fort Bliss launches first 3D‑printed Army housing complex

Fort Bliss held a ribbon‑cutting ceremony to open the first of ten 3D‑printed barracks on its Texas installation. The project, built with construction‑technology firm ICON and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, represents the Department of Defense's largest deployment of robotic construction capabilities.

Each open‑bay barracks covers 5,772 sq ft and will house up to 560 soldiers when the full set of ten is complete. The 78,000 sq ft complex was printed in 58 days, a fraction of the time required for traditional building methods, and the Army reported a 9.3 % cost saving and four‑times faster construction. The first two buildings are already in use, with the full project slated for completion in September. Designed for energy resilience, the new housing will replace aging temporary structures and improve readiness for units such as Task Force Bastogne supporting Operation Ardent Vanguard.
