Fort Collins offers 1,000 $25 trees in urban forest sale

The City of Fort Collins is holding its annual Rooted in Community Tree Sale, offering 1,000 locally grown trees for $25 each. Sales begin at 8 a.m. on Monday, Aug 24, with purchases made online through the city’s WebTrac recreation registration system. Each household may buy up to two trees on a first‑come, first‑served basis.

Buyers are instructed to create a WebTrac account in advance. Pick‑up of purchased trees is scheduled for Saturday, Sept 12, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hoffman Mill; unclaimed trees will be donated. The selection includes climate‑appropriate species such as Ohio buckeye “Jimmy K.,” fruitless crabapple, Haralson apple, various oaks and elms, plus other shade, ornamental and fruit trees grown by Fort Collins Wholesale Nursery.

Senior forestry specialist Christine Holtz said the program helps residents build a healthier, more resilient urban forest, improving air quality, storm‑water management, carbon capture, wildlife habitat, and neighborhood energy use. The initiative is supported by the city’s Nature in the City program and Forestry Division, which maintains more than 61,000 trees on public lands.
