Fort de Brégançon becomes a popular site for political tourism

The Fort de Brégançon, the official summer residence of French President Emmanuel Macron located in Bormes-les-Mimosas, has become a significant site for political tourism. While the fortress is secured to protect the President's privacy during his stays, it remains open to the public under strict conditions.

Following a decision by former President François Hollande in 2014, the site has been accessible to visitors. In 2025, approximately 3,500 people visited the fort. According to David Goncalvès, director of the local tourism office, the site is among the top five most requested activities in Bormes-les-Mimosas in terms of ticket sales and revenue. Due to high demand, visitors often face wait times of up to six months for guided tours, which are limited to groups of 20 people.
