Fort Langley hosts historic Brigade Days reenactments

During the BC Day long‑weekend, the Fort Langley National Historic Site staged its annual Brigade Days, a deep‑dive into 19th‑century fur‑trade life. Volunteers and visitors dressed in period costume, with a fashion show featuring a top‑hat‑and‑tails ensemble and a Hudson's Bay Company sash, while demonstrations included wool‑spinning, black‑smithing, musket firing, gold panning, open‑fire cooking and Indigenous art and cuisine.

Interpretation officer Aman Johal explained that by the 1840s Fort Langley served as a supply depot for the Hudson's Bay Company, repackaging furs from interior forts for shipment to England. The event also distributed commemorative medallions. Participants such as Fraser, a Walnut Grove resident, and visitor Karen Wiebe highlighted the authenticity of the costumes and the community spirit of the reenactment.
