Fort Lauderdale home struck by two separate crane collapses

Two cranes toppled onto a residential home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Thursday, causing significant structural damage. The first incident occurred around 9:10 a.m. when a Cooper Crane company truck, equipped with an articulated crane, overturned on the 800 block of Southeast 8th Street. The crane was being used by a pest control company to prepare the house for termite tenting.

In a secondary mishap, a second crane collapsed onto the same property while crews were attempting to use it to remove the first fallen crane. The weight of the second crane caused its beam to strike the roof and rear wall of the house.

No injuries were reported during either collapse. Following the second incident, a hazardous materials team was dispatched to address a potential diesel fuel leak. City fire and building inspectors were called to the scene to assess the structural integrity of the home, which was reportedly undergoing renovations at the time. The causes of both collapses remain under investigation.
