Fort Lauderdale police consult psychics in missing teen case

The Fort Lauderdale Police Department has taken the unusual step of consulting two psychic profilers to assist in the investigation of Sophie Reeder, a teenager who has been missing for over nine years.

Sophie disappeared from her Florida home in the middle of the night. Despite the case receiving national attention through programs such as NBC’s ‘Dateline: Missing in America’ and ‘In Pursuit with John Walsh’, the investigation has remained cold with little progress. A department spokesperson stated that while the agency traditionally does not consult outside parties on criminal cases, they are willing to try ‘new and unique approaches’ to uncover information.

The decision has met with criticism from the victim's family. Sophie’s father, Patrick Reeder, expressed confusion over the use of psychics, while her aunt, Kirsten Milhorn, described the move as a ‘misallocation of resources.’ One of the psychic profilers involved, Alejandra Taborn, defended the method by suggesting that even if people are skeptical, there is little to lose by trying.
