Fort Normandeau Days celebrates Central Alberta cultures

The 39th annual Fort Normandeau Days took place on September 26 and 27, 2026, in Central Alberta. The two-day celebration included live music, art, dance, and staged battles featuring cannons and black powder guns.

Todd Nivens, executive director of the Waskasoo Environmental Education Society, stated the event aims to celebrate the convergence of three distinct cultures: the Cree and Blackfoot communities, the Métis buffalo hunters, and colonial settlers.

The festivities were held in conjunction with Alberta Culture Days and received funding from both provincial sources and the federal Department of Canadian Heritage. The Fort Normandeau park and interpretive centre remains open to the public from May to October, offering various educational and recreational programs.
