Fort Smith shooting suspect arrested after three injured

A man has been arrested following a shooting in Fort Smith, Northwest Territories, that left three people injured. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Saturday in the parking lot of Dirty O’Fergie’s Pub, a venue hosting the annual Fireweed Festival.

The shooting triggered a community-wide shelter-in-place order that lasted approximately 15 hours, disrupting festival programming. RCMP officials stated the attack appeared to be targeted and that the risk to the general public had passed, leading to the lifting of the order on Saturday evening.

Two of the victims were reportedly medevaced to Edmonton for medical attention. The RCMP arrested a suspect without incident at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Sunday. While charges are forthcoming, the suspect has not yet been publicly identified. A heavy police presence, including specialized units and tactical vehicles, remained in the area as the investigation continues.
