Fort St. James authorities investigate viral Cat in the Hat social media trend
Authorities in Fort St. James, British Columbia, are investigating a viral social media trend involving the “Cat in the Hat” character. The trend uses artificial intelligence to transform the Dr. Seuss character into a horror-like figure, often depicted lurking near homes, schools, and neighborhoods at night.
In Fort St. James, TikTok posts from an account named “catinthehatfortstjames” targeted specific students and mentioned the local high school with threatening captions. While the Fort St. James RCMP stated the situation does not currently appear to involve criminal activity, they have urged the community to report any suspicious activity or property damage.
This phenomenon has been reported globally, with similar incidents triggering law enforcement investigations in the United States, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. In the U.S., authorities in Louisiana, Tennessee, and Texas previously investigated similar posts that named specific schools and students.
