Fort Worth approves $10B data center site plan

The Fort Worth City Council has approved an amended site plan for a $10 billion data center project led by Black Mountain. The decision, reached via a 7-4 vote, follows months of community backlash from residents in southeast Fort Worth regarding the facility's proximity to residential areas.

The revised plan covers 187 acres and includes the addition of an electrical substation. To address local concerns, the council amended the zoning language to require a maximum distance of 300 feet between the data center and nearby homes, up from previous requirements.

The updated blueprint features four buildings totaling just over one million square feet of ground space, a significant reduction from the original proposal of 18 buildings. The new design also increases the maximum building height to 70 feet and incorporates trees and green space to provide a buffer between the campus and residential neighborhoods.
