The Fort Worth City Council has unanimously approved an $11.25 million settlement for the estate of Atatiana Jefferson. The agreement aims to resolve civil claims following the 2019 shooting death of the 28-year-old woman.

Jefferson was killed inside her home during a welfare check conducted by former police officer Aaron Dean. Dean, who was spotted by a neighbor after the front door was left open, fired a shot through a window. He was subsequently convicted of manslaughter and is currently serving an 11-year prison sentence.

The settlement terms specify that a significant portion of the funds will be held in trusts for Jefferson’s two minor nephews until they reach age 18. The remaining balance will be distributed among her surviving family members. The payout is subject to final approval by a probate court.
