Fort Worth Cadillac dealership fire destroys six electric vehicles

A fire at the Frank Kent Cadillac dealership in Fort Worth, Texas, destroyed six electric vehicles and damaged two others. The blaze, which began with a single SUV on Friday evening, spread rapidly through the lot.

The Fort Worth Fire Department (FWFD) reported that the incident took approximately 17 hours and 33 minutes to bring under control. Firefighters faced significant challenges due to the nature of electric vehicle (EV) battery fires, which burn hotter and are more difficult to extinguish because the battery packs are designed to be watertight.

To manage the spread, crews utilized specialized vehicle blankets to suppress flames and protect nearby vehicles. Despite the use of these blankets, the fire flared up again during the night. Firefighters worked in rotating two-hour shifts until the fire was finally extinguished around 10:30 AM on Saturday. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains unknown.
