Fortaleza de Juromenha Receives National Rehabilitation Award for Restoration
The restoration and conservation work on the Fortaleza and Castelo de Juromenha in the Alandroal municipality of Portugal was awarded the National Rehabilitation Prize in the Restauro category. The ceremony took place at the Museum Vista Alegre in Ílhavo, where the prize was presented among roughly 80 submissions. The fortress also placed as a finalist in the Estruturas category.
Mayor João Grilo dedicated the award to the people of Juromenha and the wider municipality, thanking the project team—including Pedro Pacheco Arquitetos, construction firm HCI, ERA Arqueologia, and Ripórtico—as well as officials Ana Mendes Godinho, António Ceia da Silva and Ana Paula Amendoeira. The site is part of the REVIVE programme, which plans a tourism project inside the monument to promote public use and highlight the region’s historic military heritage.
