Fortaleza striker Luiz Fernando loses brother to sudden illness during football match

Jailson Moraes dos Santos, the 30-year-old brother of Fortaleza Esporte Clube striker Luiz Fernando, has died after falling ill during an amateur football match in Tocantinópolis, in the northern region of Tocantins.

Fortaleza Esporte Clube released an official note of condolence, describing Jailson as a “present brother” who frequently accompanied the player. The club stated that Jailson served as an “important family bridge” for the athlete.

In response to the sudden loss, the club has released Luiz Fernando to be with his family and attend the funeral services. The burial is scheduled for the afternoon of September 3, 2026, in Tocantinópolis.
