Fortaleza’s iconic ‘pratinho’ celebrated in new culinary history book

Journalist and gastronomy researcher Izakeline Ribeiro has turned her Master’s thesis from the University Federal do Ceará into a book titled *O Sabor das Ruas de Fortaleza: Um pratinho cheio de cultura alimentar*. Published by Editora UFC, the work traces how the “pratinho,” once a snack for June festivals, evolved into a daily culinary symbol of Fortaleza’s identity. It combines interviews with street‑food vendors, a city‑wide mapping of the dish’s presence, and analysis of its social and economic role, especially highlighting the contributions of women entrepreneurs.

The launch will take place on 11 August 2026 at 19:00 in the auditorium of the UFC Reitoria in the Benfica district. Ribeiro said, “O pratinho é muito mais do que uma preparação culinária. Ele reúne histórias, pessoas e modos de viver que ajudam a compreender a identidade cultural de Fortaleza a partir daquilo que a cidade come.”
