Forte dei Marmi Mayor calls for action on coastal erosion
Bruno Murzi, the mayor of Forte dei Marmi, is calling for concrete actions to address coastal erosion affecting the entire Apuo-Versiliese coastline. He emphasizes that the issue is not localized to a single municipality but is a regional concern requiring coordinated management.
A central point of contention is the proposed development and expansion of the port in Marina di Carrara. Murzi and local associations have previously expressed concerns that such developments could alter currents and exacerbate erosion along the Versilian beaches. In 2025, a petition was promoted to suspend the expansion until sufficient guarantees regarding its environmental impact are provided.
The issue has gained national attention, with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport convening a national technical table to discuss the problem. While Murzi welcomes the increased parliamentary and administrative focus, he stresses the need to move beyond discussion toward tangible results and integrated coastal planning.
