Fortescue Ltd shares hit 52-week low amid profit decline

Fortescue Ltd shares have reached a 52-week low, trading at approximately $16.57. The company’s stock has declined roughly 25% since the start of 2026, representing a nearly 30% drop from its May peak of $23.13.

While the company reported a 9% increase in revenue to US$16.97 billion due to higher shipments and iron ore prices, statutory net profit fell by 15% to US$2.86 billion. Additionally, the final fully franked dividend decreased to 46 cents per share from 60 cents the previous year.

Challenges facing the iron ore producer include a difficult outlook for the commodity and weakness in China’s property sector. Fortescue is also managing higher expected spending for FY27. To diversify, the company is expanding exploration into copper, lithium, and rare earths across Australia, Argentina, Chile, Brazil, and Kazakhstan to support the renewable energy transition.
