Fortezza di Castrocaro to host tour on Caterina Sforza
The Fortezza di Castrocaro will host a themed guided tour titled ‘Ricette d’amore e di bellezza di Caterina Sforza’ on Thursday, August 13, at 9:00 PM. Part of the ‘I Giovedì in Fortezza’ summer series, the event focuses on the life and legacy of the Renaissance figure Caterina Sforza, known as the ‘Lioness of Romagna’.
The tour explores Sforza’s connection to the fortress and her book ‘Experimenti’, a collection of medical, cosmetic, and alchemical recipes compiled through her interactions with contemporary scholars, physicians, and apothecaries. The program aims to reveal the personality and secrets of the Lady of Imola and Countess of Forlì through the lens of her historical experiments in beauty and personal care.
In addition to the guided tour, the fortress’s panoramic terrace will be open from 7:30 PM to 11:00 PM with free entry, offering views of the valley. The Historical and Archaeological Museum will also be available for visits. While the terrace access is free, the guided tour requires a paid reservation and a separate museum ticket, though entry is free for those under 14.
