FortiGuard Labs reports AI-driven surge in Colombian cybercrime

FortiGuard Labs, the threat intelligence arm of Fortinet, reports that artificial intelligence is actively transforming the cybersecurity landscape by serving as both a defensive tool and a weapon for attackers. In Colombia, the country recorded 3,500 million malicious events during the first half of 2026, highlighting the increasing speed and scale of digital risks.

According to Derek Manky, Global VP of Threat Intelligence at FortiGuard Labs, cybercrime has evolved from isolated campaigns into a structured system where malicious actors utilize AI to drive tactics exponentially. To counter these threats, organizations are being urged to industrialize their cybersecurity operations and adopt AI-driven tools capable of responding at the same velocity as modern attacks.
