Fortinet reports rising AI-driven cyber threats in Philippines and Canada

A Fortinet study of organizations in the Philippines found that 57% list AI-driven threats as a top concern and more than half cite fragmented tools and alert overload as major challenges. Companies are moving toward unified, platform‑based security, with expectations that unified platforms will rise from 20% to 59% in the next 12–24 months. While 91% plan to increase AI budgets, many still lack the integrated data and automation needed for effective AI deployment.

In Canada, Fortinet’s 2026 Global Threat Landscape Report placed the country second worldwide for ransomware incidents, behind only the United States. The report recorded 374 extortion cases and a total of 17 billion cyber‑attack attempts in 2025, up from 13.7 billion the previous year. Eighty‑two percent of Canadian organizations experienced at least one breach in the past year, with roughly one‑fifth of those breaches costing US$1‑2 million. A shortage of cybersecurity talent was identified as a key factor, with 47% of IT leaders citing skill gaps as a primary cause of breaches.
