Serie A unveils 2026-27 schedule with new derby and FIFA‑window rules
The Serie A league will present the 2026‑27 season calendar on 5 June 2026 at 18:30 in the Teatro Regio in Parma. The schedule, covering 38 match‑days for 20 clubs, introduces several structural changes.
Derbies will no longer be placed on the opening or closing match‑day; instead they will be spread across the season on mid‑week or central dates. The fixture list will be asymmetrical, meaning the order of fixtures in the first half differs from the second half, and a minimum of eight match‑days must separate the two meetings between the same opponents.
Two mid‑week rounds are scheduled on 28 October 2026 (9th match‑day) and 6 January 2027 (18th match‑day). The FIFA international window for September and October will be merged into a single block with four national‑team dates, causing a consecutive league pause on 27 September and 4 October 2026. Additional shorter pauses are set for early November 2026, late March 2027 and the Christmas period.
Clubs participating in UEFA competitions receive protection on specific match‑days to avoid congested schedules. An alternating home‑away rule is applied for the pairs Inter‑Milan, Lazio‑Roma and Juventus‑Torino. Due to stadium renovations, Como will start the season with three away matches. These criteria aim to balance competition, public order and broadcast visibility throughout the season.
