Fortnite collaboration with Obsession film sparks player backlash

Epic Games has introduced a new character skin in Fortnite based on Nikki Freeman, the protagonist of the horror film ‘Obsession’. The collaboration, part of the annual Fortnitemares season, features cosmetics inspired by the movie, including the Nikki outfit, a ‘One Wish Willow’ back bling, a broken bottle pickaxe, and a ‘No No No…’ emote.

The addition has caused significant controversy and calls for a boycott among a portion of the player base. Critics argue that turning Nikki into a playable character is inappropriate given the film's themes, which involve psychological manipulation, loss of autonomy, and sexual assault. In the movie, Nikki is a victim of a supernatural wish that allows another character to control her body and mind.

While some fans welcome the inclusion of the popular horror icon, others on social media platforms like X have expressed outrage, labeling the move as insensitive to the character's traumatic narrative. The skin is available in the in-game item shop, with the full bundle priced at 2,000 V-Bucks.
