Fortnite returns to Australian App Store following court ruling

Epic Games is set to bring Fortnite back to the Apple App Store in Australia following a significant ruling by the Australian Federal Court. The court found that Apple had engaged in antitrust conduct, violating competition laws by maintaining a closed ecosystem.

As part of the remedial actions, the court ordered Apple to open its iOS platform to third-party app stores and allow developers to use alternative payment systems. Apple is also prohibited from using anti-steering practices that prevent developers from directing users to external purchasing methods. While the court has mandated these structural changes to the Australian App Store, the full regulatory overhaul is scheduled to take effect in March 2027.

The return of the game marks a major shift in mobile distribution for iPhone and iPad users in the region, though it does not necessarily signal an end to the broader legal tensions between Epic Games and Apple.
