Forty-seven guinea pigs abandoned in Lower Saxony forest
Forty-seven guinea pigs were discovered abandoned in two large cardboard boxes in a forest area near Ilten, located between Sehnde and Lehrte in Lower Saxony. The group consists of 28 males and 19 females.
Authorities from the Region Hannover reported that the animals were in poor condition, noting at least one instance of a large abscess on a guinea pig's neck. Because the animals were not separated by gender, officials expressed concern that some of the females may be pregnant, which could increase the number of animals requiring care in the coming months.
The guinea pigs have been moved to an animal shelter for medical treatment and care. The Region Hannover is currently seeking information regarding the identity of the previous owner and is urging anyone with information to contact them via email or telephone to assist in the investigation.
