Forum 2000 conference opens in Prague with focus on democracy
The 30th anniversary of the Forum 2000 international conference has commenced in Prague, bringing together approximately 800 participants from 100 countries. The event, which focuses on democracy, human rights, and global challenges, opened with a video address from Czech President Petr Pavel.
During the opening ceremonies, the Forum 2000 Prize for Courage and Responsibility was awarded to three Burmese dissidents—Tajzar San, Nan Lin, and Htet Mjat Aung—alongside the General Coordination Committee of Strikes (GSCB) coalition. Senate President Miloš Vystrčil presented the awards, noting that the recipients could not attend in person due to the ongoing civil war in Myanmar.
The conference program includes discussions on transatlantic relations, the Indo-Pacific partnership, and the impact of artificial intelligence on democratic values. Featured speakers include various current and former heads of state, Nobel Peace Prize laureates, and prominent figures such as Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and historian Yuval Noah Harari.
