Forum for Human Rights in Jammu and Kashmir Calls for Full Statehood and Repeal of 2019 Reorganisation Act

The Forum for Human Rights in Jammu and Kashmir released its seventh annual report on the eve of the seventh anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370. The report urges the full restoration of statehood, the repeal of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act of 2019, and the revival of the region’s disbanded human‑rights commissions. It highlights continued use of emergency powers, prolonged detentions, economic distress, and restrictions on civil liberties, arguing that governance remains imbalanced between the elected government and the Lieutenant‑Governor.

The Forum presented the report to National Conference president Farooq Abdullah at the party headquarters in Srinagar. Leaders of the Forum, including former interlocutor Prof Radha Kumar and former Home Secretary A K Pillai, briefed NC officials on the findings and discussed governance, democratic institutions, and human‑rights concerns. Abdullah thanked the Forum and said the party would study the report in detail.
