Foshan illustrator dies after falling from building following online scam

A 25-year-old freelance illustrator in Foshan, Guangdong, has died after falling from a 32-story building, reportedly following a significant online commission scam. The artist, known by the pseudonym ‘Bu Chi Xi You’, was targeted by scammers posing as customer service representatives from the platform Xianyu.

The fraudsters convinced the illustrator that her account was frozen and required a series of transactions to unfreeze it. This resulted in a loss of over 40,000 yuan, much of which was obtained through online loans. Facing a monthly repayment burden of at least 8,000 yuan alongside living expenses, the artist had attempted to raise funds by selling her artwork at a heavily discounted price of 250 yuan per piece.

Family members confirmed her death on social media, noting she was a person who loved life. Local police have confirmed receiving a report regarding the fraud and are currently investigating the case.
