Fossa opens new Madrid facility to build satellite constellation

Spanish satellite company Fossa has inaugurated a new 3,000-square-meter headquarters in Las Rozas, Madrid, to expand its industrial capacity for intelligence and communications solutions. The facility includes a cleanroom, laboratories, software areas, and a control center, enabling the company to manufacture up to 16 satellites simultaneously.

Since its founding in 2020, Fossa has launched 26 satellites in low Earth orbit. The company aims to deploy a constellation of 140 satellites within the next two years to serve industrial, security, and defense applications. This expansion marks a shift from producing small picosatellites to developing larger nanosatellites (up to 12 kg) and microsatellites (exceeding 100 kg).

During a visit to the facilities, Spanish First Vice President and Minister of Economy, Commerce, and Enterprise Carlos Cuerpo noted that Fossa has launched more satellites than any other Spanish company. The company, which also maintains offices in Lisbon and Tokyo, has raised approximately 20 million euros in funding to date.
