Foster care statistics reported in Pleven and Varna regions
Foster care statistics and challenges were highlighted in recent regional discussions in Bulgaria. In the Pleven region, Director of the Regional Social Assistance Directorate Svetlana Georgieva reported that 117 active foster families are currently providing homes for 114 children. Georgieva noted a continued need for more families, particularly for children aged 0 to 3 and those with disabilities.
In the Varna region, a regional conference organized by the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency revealed that there are 106 foster families, with 27 located in the Varna municipality. Nine new candidates from four different municipalities are currently undergoing the investigation process. Officials emphasized that foster care is vital for providing stability to children who cannot live with biological parents, whether through reintegration, adoption, or long-term care.
