Fotoautomat brings analog photo booth experience to Mexico City
A new project called Fotoautomat has launched in the San Rafael neighborhood of Mexico City, offering an analog photographic experience to counter the dominance of digital imagery. The project features a vintage photo booth named ‘Lupita,’ which was sourced from Västervik, Sweden.
Restoring the machine required five months of mechanical adjustments and chemical work to return it to functioning order. The booth aims to provide a spontaneous, unfiltered alternative to mobile photography, allowing users to receive physical strips of film. The initiative draws inspiration from the history of automatic booths, which were popularized following Anatol Josepho’s inventions in the 1920s.
