FOTOCOM 2026 honors Dominican photojournalists Franklin Guerrero and Daniel Duvergé
The inaugural International Congress of Photojournalism and Strategic Visual Communication, FOTOCOM 2026, opened on August 26 at the Universidad APEC (UNAPEC) in the Dominican Republic. The opening ceremony included posthumous honors for prominent Dominican photojournalists Franklin Guerrero and Daniel Duvergé.
Guerrero, a photojournalist, communicator, and dentist, was represented by his daughters, Rosa Angélica and María Teresa Guerrero Sánchez. The recognition highlighted his role in documenting significant national events and figures. Daniel Duvergé was represented by his daughters, Noelia and Daniela Duvergé Vizcaíno, in recognition of his contributions to the country's visual memory.
The awards were presented by Karina Alarcón, communications advisor for the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs, on behalf of Minister Eduardo Sanz Lovatón. The event also recognized institutions such as UNAPEC and ONDA, as well as notable Dominican women photojournalists.
